Wind resource assessment uncertainty for a TLP-based met mast
نویسندگان
چکیده
The current work presents wind resource assessment results of a complete one-year offshore measurement campaign in the Aegean Sea, at 65 m deep waters, with floating tension leg platform (TLP) equipped met mast reaching height 44 above mean sea level (AMSL). Wind conditions uncertainty is evaluated according to existing standards and guidelines additional uncertainty, due motion, addressed two different methods: First by performing tunnel experiments, which sensors are submitted various controlled motions second comparing onboard lidar nearby onshore one. Both methods converge that motion effects minimal values TLP ≤1%.

Uncertainty Analysis in Wind Resource Assessment and Wind Energy Production Estimation
This paper presents a mathematical approach to properly account for uncertainty in wind resource assessment and wind energy production estimation. The evaluation of a wind resource and the subsequent estimation of the annual energy production (AEP) is a highly uncertain process. Uncertainty arises at all points in the process, from measuring the wind speed to the uncertainty in a power curve. A...
متن کاملA New Method for Reducing Uncertainty of Wind Power Based on Fuzzy RLS-MLFE
Due to incremental use of renewable energies, some challenges have been arised in control of wind power systems. One of the important ones is the uncertainty of wind power that affects directly on the cost of utilization. In this paper some algorithms based on the fuzzy logic and neural networks have been implemented to analyze the uncertainty of the wind power using historical data collected f...
متن کاملPrediction of local wind climatology from Met Office models: Virtual Met Mast techniques
The Met Office has developed the Virtual Met MastTM (VMM) tool for assessing the feasibility of potential wind farm sites. It provides site-specific climatological wind information for both onshore and offshore locations. The VMM relies on existing data from past forecasts from regional-scale numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, to which corrections are applied to account for local site c...
متن کاملA Comparison of Wind Flow Models for Wind Resource Assessment in Wind Energy Applications
The objective of this work was to assess the accuracy of various coupled mesoscale-microscale wind flow modeling methodologies for wind energy applications. This is achieved by examining and comparing mean wind speeds from several wind flow modeling methodologies with observational measurements from several 50 m met towers distributed across the study area. At the mesoscale level, with a 5 km r...
